Darden Restaurants, Inc. Description:
Darden Restaurants, Inc. is the world's largest casual dining restaurant company (based on market share, annual sales and number of company-owned restaurants). They operate over 1,700 restaurants including Red Lobster, Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze and Seasons 52. They employ approximately 170,000 people who help serve over 350 million meals annually. Almost all Darden restaurants are company-owned and operated.

Darden Restaurants, Inc. is a Florida corporation incorporated in March 1995, and is the parent company of GMRI, Inc., also a Florida corporation. Darden opened their first restaurant, a Red Lobster seafood restaurant, in Lakeland, Florida in 1968. Red Lobster was founded by William B. Darden, for whom they are named. Darden was acquired by General Mills, Inc. in 1970. In May 1995, they became a separate publicly held company when General Mills distributed all outstanding Darden stock to General Mills’ stockholders.
